NVIDIA HGX Blackwell GPU server in a Dubai data center

NVIDIA B300 vs B200: Which Blackwell GPU Should You Buy?

NVIDIA now ships two generations of Blackwell data center GPUs side by side. The B200 launched the platform. The B300, also called Blackwell Ultra, adds more memory and faster low-precision compute. For teams in the UAE and wider Middle East planning an 8-GPU HGX or DGX purchase, the real question is not which chip is newer but which one fits the workload, power budget and delivery timeline. This guide compares B300 vs B200 on the specs that matter and explains when each makes sense.

B300 vs B200 at a glance

B200 B300 (Blackwell Ultra)
GPU memory 192 GB HBM3e (about 180 GB usable in DGX/HGX) 288 GB HBM3e (12-high stacks)
Memory bandwidth About 8 TB/s About 8 TB/s
Dense FP4 compute About 9 PFLOPS About 14–15 PFLOPS (roughly 1.5×)
FP64 (HPC) Strong Heavily reduced; not aimed at classic HPC
Power per GPU About 1,000 W About 1,100–1,400 W depending on system
NVLink 5th gen, 1.8 TB/s per GPU 5th gen, 1.8 TB/s per GPU
Networking in reference systems ConnectX-7 (400G) ConnectX-8 SuperNIC (800G)
8-GPU system memory About 1.44 TB About 2.3 TB

Where the B300 pulls ahead

  • Large-model inference: 288 GB per GPU means a 400B-plus parameter model or a long-context 70B model fits on fewer GPUs, with more room for KV cache and concurrent users.
  • Reasoning models: faster attention and FP4 throughput help models that generate long chains of tokens.
  • Cluster scale-out: 800G networking per GPU is a real gain when you build multi-node training or inference clusters.

For sizing memory per model, see how much GPU memory LLMs need.

Where the B200 still makes sense

  • Power-limited data halls: many UAE colocation racks are still provisioned well below what a B300 HGX node draws. The B200 is easier to host, and some B200 configurations are air-cooled.
  • Mixed AI and HPC: if simulation or scientific codes need FP64, the B200 is the better fit.
  • Price and availability: as B300 volume ramps, B200 systems are often quoted with shorter lead times and lower prices.
  • Models under 100B parameters: 180 GB per GPU is already generous for fine-tuning and serving most open models.

Current pricing ranges are in our H100, H200 and B200 price guide.

Power and cooling checklist

  1. Confirm per-rack power with your data center. An 8-GPU B300 node can need 14 kW or more.
  2. Ask the OEM whether the configuration is air-cooled or needs direct liquid cooling.
  3. Plan networking: 800G optics and switches for B300 clusters cost more than 400G.
  4. Check export licensing and delivery terms for your country before you commit.

Which should you choose?

Your situation Better fit
Serving very large or long-context models to many users B300
Building a new multi-node cluster in a liquid-cooled facility B300
Fine-tuning and serving models up to about 70B parameters B200
Rack power below about 15 kW or air cooling only B200
Need FP64 for HPC alongside AI B200

Frequently asked questions

Is the B300 the same as Blackwell Ultra?

Yes. B300 is the GPU name; Blackwell Ultra is the generation. GB300 pairs B300 GPUs with a Grace CPU.

Can B200 and B300 GPUs be mixed in one server?

No. HGX baseboards are built for one GPU type. Separate nodes can share a cluster, but scheduling is simpler with one type.

Is the B300 faster for training?

For low-precision training of large models, usually yes. For FP64 or smaller models, the gain over the B200 is small or negative.

Does the B300 require liquid cooling?

Most high-density B300 systems use liquid cooling. Some OEMs offer air-cooled variants at lower power limits, so check the exact model.
